TCC – Endurance Lab Virtual Challenge

Here’s a reason to get back into your favorite running attire… TCC (Triathlon Club of Colombo), together with Endurance Lab for the first time in Sri Lanka is organizing a virtual 4 stage challenge that spans over 4 weekends!

Each weekend will have a different challenge to complete. You can run anywhere you want – be it your favorite trail route or a beach run… all you have to do is send the link to your Strava activity to get on the leader board once you’ve registered for the challenge. Participants can perform the races any time during the given weekend.

STAGE 01 – 30/31ST MAY – 2KM RUN

STAGE 02 – 06/07TH JUNE – 20KM BIKE

STAGE 03 – 13/14TH JUNE – 10KM RUN

STAGE 04 – 20/21ST JUNE – 2KM RUN / 20KM BIKE / 10KM RUN

The virtual race has attracted over 16 nations to compete together, including Sri Lanka, Australia, Bangladesh, Philippines, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, Sweden, UK, USA, and Yemen. When the organizers decided to launch the event three weeks ago, they never expected so many participants to take part in the event to make it successful. The race proved that even after three months of lock-down, people were ready to continue their outdoor sports and healthy lifestyle, which is very encouraging.
Stage 1 run had 115 finishers with 33 female participants and 82 men. You’d be delighted to know that 68 year old Agnes Safford from USA and 64 year old Maithri Liyanage from Sri Lanka completed in this race too. The Stage 2 run completed last week with 107 finishers, even under rainy weather conditions. Some participants were unable to perform stage 2 due to the lock-down or not having access to a bike; the organizers decided to give them the option of running 6km instead of riding 20km. Hence, people were happy to take part to this challenge and are looking forward the coming stages. Khalid Oshman (the first visually impaired Sri Lankan triathlete) is also taking part to this challenge with Mithun as guide. You can learn more about Khalid’s inspirational story here.

Anyone is welcome to join the event, beginner or pro. Try out this novel way of competing, and stand a chance to win rewards too – for each stage, finishers earn a virtual medal. The concept is to complete all 4 stages and to collect the 4 medals in order to complete the TCC Endurance Lab Virtual Race Overall 4 stages puzzle.

Registration for the event is free and you can call Mithun via 076 155 6306 for more details. You can also follow TCC Facebook page and the event page here.
